Churchland Lodge No. 276 is named after the small village of Churchland, Virginia.
Churchland Lodge was established under a special dispensation granted by Most Worshipful R. T. W. Duke, Grand Master of Masons in Virginia.
The first meeting was held on November 29, 1898, in the old Grange Hall.
From 1898 to October 1900, Lodge meetings were held at 2:00 p.m. This would allow brethren to return home early enough to put their horses, wagons and buggies in their barn before nightfall.
During the early years of Churchland Lodge many visiting brethren from the city of Portsmouth traveled by trolley or streetcars, and assisted the new officers with instruction and the proper way to perform their duties.
On January 31, 1901, a special communication was held at which time Churchland Lodge received its charter, dated December 6, 1900, from the Grand Lodge of Virginia.
On September 18, 1962, Churchland Lodge held its first Stated communication in its new temple.
Churchland Lodge is one of the most active Lodges in the state, and has received many awards for its outstanding participation and leadership in both Masonic and community projects.
